Sail to the Northern Ionian islands of Corfu and Paxos enroute to Albania
First departure on the 19th October 2025
New for Autumn 2025, our first mile builder of the winter season sees us take a trip north from our base in Nikiana on Lefkas to Sarande in Albania. We will be making two night passages enroute, stopping in Paxos and Corfu along the way. October is an excellent time for this kind of trip, with changeable weather adding to the experience and hopefully providing us with some more challenging sailing.
This trip is ideal for those looking to build on their existing experience, either as a Day Skipper looking to skipper a larger yacht, or alternatively for those looking to progress beyond their existing qualifications to Coastal Skipper or higher.
As well as putting close to 200 nautical miles under the keel, we will be covering some advanced sail trim training, and hopefully putting into practice some heavy-weather sailing techniques on our way to some of the highlights of the Northern Ionian Islands.
We will be checking out of Greece from Corfu and heading across to Albania and the resort of Sarande – an opportunity not only to visit this emerging destination but also to understand the formalities associated with cross-border passages and the associated formalities.

Area Information
Greece’s northern Ionian Islands, from Corfu to Lefkas, are a captivating blend of natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture. These islands are known for their lush landscapes, pristine beaches, and turquoise waters, making them a paradise for nature lovers and sailors. Corfu, the largest and most cosmopolitan, boasts Venetian architecture, charming old towns, and lively resorts. Just south, the tranquil islands of Paxos and Antipaxos offer a more secluded experience, with Paxos famous for its olive groves and picturesque harbours. Crossing to Albania is an exciting highlight, visiting Sarande (pictured above), on the Albanian Riviera with the nearby extensive UNESCO world heritage site of Ancient Butrint dating back to the 5th century BC and located in a stunning national park.

Weather & Sailing Conditions
October sailing in the Northern Ionian can be changeable, the prevailing north-westerly winds tend to be more varied at this time of the year, with the chance for variable and sometimes stronger wind conditions. We will be making passage at night on a couple of occasions, so its advisable to bring some layered clothing and light waterproofs. Temperatures during the day, however, are pleasantly mild, with temperatures often in the mid twenties.

The Yacht
Our Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 469 is a well-suited training yacht due to its spacious layout with four cabins, providing comfortable living quarters for students. It also offers good performance for its size, allowing students to experience sail handling in a variety of conditions. The large size makes it a challenging and rewarding yacht in manoeuvres under power which is good training for those looking to skipper larger craft.
Cabins & Sleeping
Kos 469 features four cabins, two at the back of the yacht, both ensuite and 2 single ensuite cabins in the bow. The starboard fwd cabin is reserved for the instructor. All cabins feature a number of hatches and fans to provide lovely ventilation and full bedding for different periods of the season. There is 12v charging in the cabins along with 220v when connected to shore power.
Shared Spaces
The interior of the yacht is light and airy with a large seating area, a fully equipped galley/kitchen and a navigation area. There is 12v charging available in the saloon plus 220v plugs when on shore power. Storage for soft bags is available under the seating area plus under the beds in cabins.
Exterior
Kos 469 has a cockpit area at the back of the yacht which offers seating and hosts twin wheels for steering plus a fold down swimming platform. There is a large bimini for sun protection and a sprayhood for foul weather. The sailing power for the yacht comes from a fully battened mainsail with a lazy bag plus a large roller genoa.
Safety
Safety is incredibly important for all sailing activities and Kos 469 is fully compliant with both Greek and UK coding. We have inflatable lifejackets for all crew members plus a liferaft, multiple radios, jack stays, gass & smoke detectors plus other specialist safety equipment.
