Sail away to a paradise of turquoise water and emerald islands. Glide past dramatic limestone cliffs and discover hidden coves full of colourful marine life.

Our AHOY Adventure in Thailand explores the famous Phang Nga Bay, home to spectacular places such as James Bond Island and Phi Phi Lei, the setting for ‘The Beach’. We also sail alongside a small Seafarer flotilla, so there are plenty of chances to socialise.

The Thailand route: 10 nights in Phang Nga Bay

Our Thailand island hopping route takes in limestone islands, sea caves, lagoons and beaches across Phang Nga Bay, with short daily sails of 15 to 21 nautical miles.

Thailand island hopping from Phuket

We start and finish at Phuket Yacht Haven in the north of the island. In between, the route visits Koh Hong, Koh Yao Noi, Railay Beach, Koh Pu, Koh Lanta, Phi Phi Don and Koh Yao Yai, with a free day in the middle.

Most nights we stay on a mooring or at anchor, so the dinghy takes us ashore to explore deserted beaches and lively towns. As on any sailing trip, however, the weather always plays a part, so the skipper has the final say.

Weather and sailing conditions in Thailand

Our Thailand sailing season runs from January to April, the driest months of the year. Temperatures are in the mid to high 20s °C, and although there may be a little rain, the sunshine is consistent, with an average of 8 hours a day.

The sea is warm too, at 28 to 29 °C on average, thanks to the relatively shallow water. Meanwhile, the prevailing winds blow from the north and north west, typically at force 3 to 4 and locally force 5.

The yacht

Our Thailand yacht: Southern Star, a Bavaria C45

Our Bavaria C45 ‘Southern Star’ is a great yacht for exploring the islands of Thailand. Her modern shape and construction also offer excellent performance and comfort.

Comfort on board

The yacht has a large, comfortable cockpit, a well-proportioned galley and saloon, and two spacious guest cabins. The two cabins also share a large bathroom with a separate shower area.

She carries full safety equipment, including lifejackets and a liferaft, and she is fully coded to local regulations. We also carry a large, powerful RIB on davits, which is perfect for exploring the hidden coves and beaches of Phang Nga Bay.

Getting to Thailand: Phuket Yacht Haven

We are based at Phuket Yacht Haven in the north of the island, which is easy to reach by private transport, whether you join us for the sailing or as part of a longer trip.

  • Flights

    Flights from London (Heathrow and Gatwick), Manchester and Birmingham stop once on the way, with a total journey time of about 15 hours to Phuket. Flights are available from around £550pp, and there are also great-value local flights to Bangkok, which take under 2 hours.


  • Taxi and minivan

    The easiest way to reach Phuket Yacht Haven is by taxi or minivan from the airport. The journey takes about 30 minutes, and we can also book it for you in advance. Phuket town is in the south of the island, about 50 minutes away by pre-booked taxi or minibus.

Sail and stay in Thailand

The area offers endless chances to explore, or to relax at a superb beach resort before and after your cruise. Here are some of our favourites.


  • Cape Panwa Hotel

    On the south-east tip of Phuket, this 5-star resort has its own private beach and a wide choice of stunning rooms, including a penthouse with its own infinity pool. It is ideal if you want to avoid busy Phuket town.


  • Paradox Resort Phuket

    On Karon Beach, this resort is also close to the heart of Phuket town and Patong, which is famous for its nightlife. The resort looks out over a beautiful white-sand beach, so it is a great choice for families.


  • The Slate

    The Slate is closer to the airport, so it is convenient for a shorter stay. Its suites and villas are in a traditional Thai style, and they are great for a couple of days to unwind before your flight home.


  • Lebua Hotel, Bangkok

    If you would like to stay further afield, Lebua’s suites in the State Tower have amazing views across Bangkok. The hotel is in the heart of this vibrant city, yet it offers a peaceful place to rest after busy days exploring.
