A unique flotilla experience in the Northern Adriatic

Following on from a successful trip in 2026, we embark on our explorer flotilla in the Northern Adriatic, starting from Pula in Croatia and heading across to Venice, a destination that needs no introduction.

Pula is known for its well-preserved Roman amphitheatre, and the old town has plenty of cobbled streets, revealing some lovely restaurants, or konobas, that showcase Adriatic cuisine, with a focus on the abundance of fresh seafood.

From here we journey north along the Croatian coast to Novigrad, with a couple of shorter sailing days to shake out the reefs and get our crews ready for the passage to Venice. An early start from Novigrad sees us head west across the Adriatic to Cavallino, just north of Venice, where we spend a couple of days, with a non-sailing day to explore Venice itself. After some time ashore we journey south, past Venice, to Chioggia for another taste of Italy, before heading east to explore the islands to the south of Pula.

Two weeks from Pula: north along the Istrian coast, across the Adriatic to Venice and Chioggia, then back to Croatia and south through the islands of Lošinj, Ilovik, Silba and Susak. Full details of each day are below.

The Northern Adriatic sailing area

The Northern Adriatic, the shallowest part of the Adriatic Sea, stretches between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. Its calm waters and sandy seabed have shaped coastal life for centuries, supporting fishing, trade and tourism.

The region’s unique mix of fresh water from rivers like the Po and salt water from the Mediterranean creates rich ecosystems, home to diverse marine species and wetlands. Historic ports such as Venice, Trieste and Rijeka grew prosperous along its shores, and today the Northern Adriatic balances economic activity with environmental protection, preserving its cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Pula to Venice weather and sailing conditions

The weather in June is warm and predictable, with typical daytime temperatures in the high 20s and slightly cooler evenings. Wind strength is typically force 3 to 5, although you should be prepared for stiffer breezes on our open-water passages.

The water temperature is perfect for a refreshing dip once the sailing is done.

Not included: mooring charges (except at the flotilla base), canal fees, extra fuel or water, food and drinks, and personal items such as laundry. For sail and stay holidays, transfers from the yacht base to your accommodation are usually excluded and payable locally, unless you book a flight-inclusive package.

Skippered flotilla sailing

These yachts are usually skippered by guests who hold the right qualifications, but we can also provide a skipper if you have no previous sailing experience. You still get all the benefits of sailing as part of a flotilla: meeting others in the evenings or during the day, organised activities for children, and all the usual pleasures of yachting, from exploring and swimming in secluded bays to the simple joy of travelling under sail.

Flights are available directly to Pula from London Gatwick and Luton, and taxi transfers to ACI Marina Pula take approximately 20 minutes. On the last day, disembarkation is at 09:00, followed by the transfer to the airport.
