The island of Kos has long been known as a centre of excellence, so windsurfers travel from around the globe to take advantage of its world-class windsurfing conditions. Kefalos, meanwhile, is tucked away on the southern tip of Kos: it is the westernmost town on the island, 43km from Kos Town.

Our beach club here, on a huge sandy beach, is run by the long-established specialists ‘Kefalos Windsurfing’, who offer truly first-class windsurfing equipment for all abilities, from beginner to expert, as well as expert supervision. More recently they have also introduced foiling, with ideal conditions and the latest equipment.

The beachfront location is stunning, but the real highlights are the extensive range of top-quality windsurfing and foiling equipment and the idyllic conditions in an uncrowded bay. Beach-based windsurfing doesn’t get much better than this, and with foiling too, you really have it all in one great location.

How the centre works

A windsurfing playground on Kos

The idea is a simple one: put a windsurfing centre in one of the world’s best locations for consistent, sheltered winds, in an uncrowded bay. Then add first-class equipment, a seasoned crew and the Greek island charm of Kos, and you have an amazing playground for watersports enthusiasts. Windsurfing and wing foiling reign supreme, with dinghy sailing and paddleboards for the calmer moments earlier in the day.

Expert windsurfing guidance at Kefalos

Our highly experienced team will supervise your progress, especially if you are a beginner, but also if you are looking to advance your skills. All the watersports staff are also trained to RYA and VDWS (the German ‘benchmark’ for windsurfing and watersports) standards, with a wealth of experience.

Our chosen beachfront accommodation is the Ionikos Beach Hotel, just a 300m stroll along the beach from Kefalos Windsurfing. It offers comfortable rooms, a buffet breakfast, a modern pool, a seafront garden and terrace, as well as a restaurant and bar on site.

Perfect for windsurfers, and those who don’t!

Prices are based on two people sharing a room. However, because we know there are couples where one windsurfs and one doesn’t, the prices work on an ‘accommodation plus’ basis: if you want the windsurfing package you pay extra, and if you don’t, you can simply relax by the pool or on the beach. For bigger parties of family or friends, rooms can also sleep up to 4 people.

Explore Kefalos and Kos

Kefalos village, strung along the long sandy beach, has a good choice of restaurants, cafes and shops, and is just a short stroll from our chosen hotel and the windsurfing centre.

The wider area also has great places to explore, such as the Asklepeion, the ancient home of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. Meanwhile, the attractive island capital is perfect for a lively evening out, and it is all within easy reach.

Windsurfing weather at Kefalos

This area is blessed with warm sunshine on over 300 days a year, so the season is long and reliable. From early May, temperatures range from the low to mid 20s in the early and late season, then rise to the mid to high 30s between mid-June and August.

The Meltemi winds are generally stronger from July to mid-September, with afternoon winds of force 4 to 6 almost every day. Even when breezes aren’t forecast, the location of Kefalos Bay and its thermal effects mean good afternoon breezes are highly likely.
