Yacht charter and bareboat sailing in the Seychelles

The Seychelles, being outside the cyclone belt, are an ideal year-round destination, with temperatures between 24°C and 32°C and a tropical climate.

Famous for deserted long white sandy beaches, towering granite rock formations, giant tortoises and the unique coco de mer palms, the Seychelles deserve their ‘Garden of Eden’ and ‘Paradise on Earth’ reputation. Largely pristine and uninhabited outside the main islands of Mahé and Praslin, this is a great destination for nature lovers, with fascinating wildlife, crystal clear turquoise waters and some of the best snorkelling on earth. The sailing will suit experienced sailors, with predictable trade winds most of the year.

Our charter base in the Seychelles is in Baie Ste Anne, on the beautiful island of Praslin. Praslin Marina is a short distance from the airport, with domestic flight connections to Seychelles International Airport on Mahé. Praslin can also be reached by speed ferry in 50 to 60 minutes from Victoria, on Mahé, and the speed ferry also connects Mahé with La Digue in 60 minutes.

Seychelles yacht charter: winds, tides and seasons

The Seychelles seasons are defined by two contrasting trade winds: the north-westerly from December to March, with warmer and sometimes wet weather, and the south-easterly from May to September, which brings cool, dry and sometimes windier weather. The north-westerly winds become stronger as the sun rises, to up to 10 knots, peaking in January. The south-easterly trades are drier and blow throughout the day at 10 to 15 knots, peaking in July and August and occasionally gusting up to 30 knots. In April and May, and in October and November, the winds change direction, bringing calm and windless periods: this is when the seas are clearest, and the best time for diving and snorkelling.

The tides are between just under a metre and two metres, and the currents are below a knot, except in the channels between islands, where they may increase to two knots. There are few limitations on mooring near the marine parks: yachts can arrive and anchor in the marked zones, and the marine park officials will then come to collect the landing, entry or overnight mooring fees.

Sail and stay in the Seychelles

As a long-haul destination, the Seychelles are ideal for a two-centre sail and stay holiday, so you can relax before flying home. We can recommend:

  • Mahé

The largest and most inhabited island, with fantastic beaches, pristine forests to explore and fascinating wildlife, including land-dwelling giant crabs. There is a range of exclusive hotels and resorts on white sand beaches, as well as boutique and smaller hotels convenient for exploring Victoria, the capital.

  • Praslin

The second largest island of the Seychelles, yet just 32 square kilometres, with a population of just 6,500: this is a great place to chill out. Famous for the Vallée de Mai national park and its giant coco de mer palms, Praslin has a selection of fine beach hotels to choose from.

  • La Digue

A gem of an island, which most justifies the Garden of Eden reputation of the Seychelles. La Digue is much quieter, with a much slower pace of life and a small choice of attractive hotels, for a few days away from it all.
