Ahoy open Water Swimmers

Seafarer have teamed up with Olympic and European Championship swimmer Ioannis Drymonakos to offer a unique island-hopping yacht trip aimed at swimmers who want to improve their technique.

Based on a comfortable air conditioned 51 foot sailing yacht, we explore the historic Saronic Gulf islands of Greece with plenty of swimming including open water crossings built into the itinerary.

The programme incorporates swimming coaching for a mixed ability group aimed at beginners or relative newcomers to open water swimming all the way up to pro swimmers. Ioannis brings his huge experience and expert knowledge of swimming to this superb programme coupled with his exceptional knowledge of Greece, having spent 4 years exploring the islands on a sailing yacht for a well-known Greek TV travel show.

Your Skipper, Host & Swim Coach - Ioannis Drymonakos

Ioannis’ career in international watersports spanned 22 years, competing in European & World championships as well as representing his beloved Greece in 3 Olympic Games. His passion for sports and travelling have seen him explore the coastline of Greece, covering more than 4,000 nautical miles in the process. During the past decade he has turned his attention to coaching others, both in the pool and in open water, developing personalised programmes and workshops. This experience makes Ioannis ideally suited to leading these cruises, enabling him to ensure that everyone, from beginners to pro swimmers, enjoys a fantastic cruise through these crystal-clear waters. He won’t be alone, ably assisted by his 1st mate, who is also a swimming coach.

The only way to travel

Our large comfortable yacht is the perfect vessels for your Greek swimming adventure, with 4 double cabins, all with air-conditioning and en-suite facilities. A maximum of eight guests are on board, together with an experienced, professional skipper & 1st mate to look after you.

Your yacht will be provisioned with a generous welcome pack including tea, coffee and fruit juices, fresh fruit, plus  everything needed for Breakfast and light lunch for the week.
Your crew will organise breakfast on the first morning and thereafter, catering on board will be a collaborative effort between the guests on board and the skipper.  The norm is to have breakfast and lunch on board whilst underway. In the evening, guests dine ashore and discover the culinary delights on offer in each destination. Should we stop at a harbour at lunchtime and you choose to eat ashore you will need to cover the cost of your lunch in a taverna or cafe.

A voyage of discovery

After a day on the water with the wind in your hair, enjoy a sun-downer on deck before exploring the local area. We like to reach harbour in the afternoon so there’s plenty of time to relax, go sightseeing or swimming before choosing a waterside taverna for dinner. Sample the local specialities, which vary from island to island and make this a voyage of culinary discovery as well as exploring the historical and cultural delights of these beautiful islands.

Our wonderful itinerary would of course be ample attraction even without the swimming.  We combine some of the better known places like Hydra and Poros with hidden gems like Epidauros and Agistri, with some stunning uninhabited islands in between to give you as much history, culture and escaping away from it all as you can handle.

Arrivals - Korfos

Transfer from Athens for embarkation in the pretty village of Korfos. The inviting clear blue waters of the bay await for a first dip before dinner.

Korfos - Epidauros

We will be separated into two groups, beginners and advanced to ensure that everyone receives targeted adjustments on their technique, depending on their swimming level. Our first port of call is the charming village of Ancient Epidauros. Optional excursion to the famous ancient amphitheatre of the same name. For those who wish to start their day swimming, we will dive into the clear blue waters near the port of Epidaurus. Our afternoon swim will take place at  Yialasi beach, the largest beach in the area, with a white pebble beach and crystal-clear waters. We will aim to swim 2,5km-3km over the sunken ruins of the ancient city of Epidaurus.

Epidauros - Poros

We will swim around Poros bay for about 4km and visit the old Russian Dockyard, a true island gem. The picturesque landscape is surrounded by a lush pine forest, golden sand and emerald waters, this is truly one of the most beautiful beaches of Poros.

Poros - Hydra

We next sail to picture post card perfect Hydra – the historic island where cars are banned. In the morning, we have an optional visit the Museum exploring all historical events including the island’s involvement in the Greek Revolution of 1821. If you are not into sightseeing then you can enjoy Hydra’s fascinating sea front promenade of restaurants, shops, markets, and galleries that cater to tourists and locals. Alternatively explore the town by donkey. We will have a light lunch at a local tavern and in the evening we will swim alongside the coastline and nearby islands, for about 3km-4km.

Hydra - Sounio

On day 6, We visit Cape Sounion. Swimming under the famous ancient temple of Poseidon for about 2,5km and we will finally visit the clifftop temple, perched on the cliff edge, seventy metres above the sea. Lunch on board

Friday - St Thomas Islands

Today we will sail towards the St Thomas Islands. After a 3km swim in the morning in Angistri and another 3km in the evening. We also visit the neighbouring islands of Metopi with it’s picturesque chapel and untouched Kyra. This evening we have our farewell dinner under the stars at the uninhabited St Thomas Islands.

St Thomas Islands - Korfos

Breakfast and an early morning sail back to Korfos for disembarkation and onward travel.
