Seafarer runs RYA training at three RYA training centres: Kefalonia in Greece, Split in Croatia, and Southampton in the UK. Beginners usually start with Start Yachting or Competent Crew, move on to Day Skipper to skipper their own yacht, and can go further with Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster. What to expect in your sailing course
Step aboard and start your journey to becoming a skilled sailor. From day one, you’ll receive hands-on training with certified RYA instructors, learning essential skills including navigation, boat handling, and safety procedures.
Our courses combine theory with real sailing experience. You’ll spend time both on deck and studying below, mastering the art of seamanship. All training takes place on well-equipped yachts, ensuring a professional learning environment.
Accommodation is provided on board, with access to essential amenities. Safety gear and learning materials are included, along with provisions for breakfast and a light lunch on our Greece courses. However, expect long days on the water, refining your skills in different conditions.
By the end of your course, you’ll have the confidence to take the helm and set sail on your own adventures.

RYA training: your questions answered
Do I need prior experience to join a sailing course?
No. Our RYA Competent Crew course is perfect for beginners with no sailing experience.
How long does it take to learn to sail?
Most beginners complete Competent Crew in five to seven days. To skipper a yacht, the Day Skipper course takes about a week.
What should I bring to my sailing course?
We recommend lightweight, non-slip shoes, sun protection (a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen), a waterproof jacket, and soft luggage rather than a hard suitcase.
Will I get a certification at the end?
Yes. Our RYA sailing courses are internationally recognised, giving you a qualification accepted worldwide.
Can I take an RYA course abroad?
Yes. We offer courses in Greece, Croatia, and the UK, each with its own sailing conditions.
