General Information

Volos is situated at the north end of the gulf of Volos, served by an international airport and ferry connections with the islands of the Sporades and the mainland. There is plenty to see in the gulf itself, and more than enough stops for a weeks charter, although you have the islands of the Sporades, the mainlands and the northern part of Evia to explore if you wish to go further afield.

The city of Volos itself is a vibrant working town, with a long esplanade full of bars, cafes and restaurants.

Sailing Itineraries

1 Week Route

Day 1

Fly UK to Volos and transfer to Volos harbour for embarkation.
Day 2

Milina (16 nm) – situated on the Pagasetic Gulf in the south west of the Pelion peninsula, the cosmopolitan fishing village of Milina is a perfect first stop for soaking up the holiday atmosphere.
Day 3

Paleo Trikeri (8 nm) – a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of Milina – Paleo Trikeri is a mikró, car-free island in the Gulf of Volos. Be sure to stock up on your supplies before visiting the island, as you will find no shops! There are just two tavernas in Paleo Trikeri – both serving the freshest of seafood.
Day 4

Orei, Evia (13 nm) – a picturesque harbour town in Northern Eva. Visit the ancient Venetian and Turkish castles and say hello to the marble bull which is exhibited in the town square, recovered from a beach in the 1960s.
Day 5

Achillio (11 nm) – Achillio is set in a deep, long bay offering wonderfully sheltered moorings. Stop by the small Maritime Museum and enjoy a glass of local Greek ‘krasí’ in a bayside wine bar while you watch the twilight set in.

Day 6

Amaliopoli (12 nm) – a traditional fishing village built into a natural amphitheatre, thick with pine trees and olive groves. Spend the afternoon on the clean, shallow beach. Relatively unheard of by tourists from overseas, this spot is a popular escape for Greek townies.
Day 7

Return to Volos – head back to one of Greece’s largest and most colourful cities. This cultural hub is teeming with life so, if you are not extending your holiday with a stay onshore, make the most of your final evening and experience the live music, local food and the industrial architecture the city is famous for.
Day 8

Disembark and transfer to Volos airport.

How to get There

Volos harbour is served by the international airport of Volos, as well as the airports of Thessaloniki to the north east and Athens to the south. The ferry port also has connections with the mainland to the south as well as the islands of the Sporades. Transfer from the airport takes no longer than 30 minutes. Direct flights with Easyjet from London Gatwick to Volos every Wednesday and Saturday.
