Its gentle breezes, secure anchorages and shimmering waters also create the perfect setting for an unforgettable Ionian flotilla holiday. Whether you’re a novice sailor looking for calm waters or a seasoned seafarer craving relaxation, the Ionian’s protected waters cater to all.

Our Lefkas flotilla sailing holidays start from Nikiana harbour, on the east coast of the island, and finish there too. From there, the routes take in must-visit destinations such as Meganisi, Kefalonia and Ithaca, as well as charming smaller islands and mainland villages.

Each stop also has its own character: the cosmopolitan feel of Fiskardo, the traditional atmosphere of Lefkas, the tranquillity of Kastos and the picturesque bays of Meganisi. So whatever you enjoy most, the Ionian has it.

How the Lefkas flotilla week works

  • Flotillas run Sunday to Sunday
  • Yachts are ready by 17:00 on day one; you disembark at around 09:00 on the last day
  • Seafarer transfers from Preveza airport take around 30 minutes
  • Our flotilla crew also brief you fully each day
  • Two flotilla routes in alternate weeks, which you can also combine into a two-week Lefkas sailing holiday

Flotilla itineraries

Two Ionian flotilla routes in alternate weeks

The Lefkas flotilla runs two routes: odd weeks sail the Ithaca route, while even weeks sail the Lefkas route. Full details of both are below, and you can also combine them into an epic two-week holiday.

The Ithaca route

Starting and finishing at Nikiana on Lefkas, about 54 nautical miles over the week

Starting and finishing at Nikiana on Lefkas, about 53 nautical miles over the week

  • Lefkas Flotilla
    Day 1

    Sunday

    Nikiana Harbour / Lefkas

    Fly UK to Preveza and transfer to Lefkas for embarkation. Our home port is on the sheltered east of the island of Lefkas, perfect for exploring the South Ionian.
  • Lefkas Flotilla Vathi Meganisi
    Day 2

    Monday

    Vathi / Meganisi (5 nm)

    A short hop on our first day is perfect: plenty of time to get used to your yacht and enjoy a swim stop for lunch before the evening punch party on the quay.
  • Lefkas Flotilla Palairos
    Day 3

    Tuesday

    Palairos (9 nm)

    This small mainland village is popular with Greek tourists and offers a great selection of tavernas for your evening meal. Anchor outside the harbour or moor on the quay: the choice is yours.
  • Kalamos
    Day 4

    Wednesday

    Kalamos (13 nm)

    Today we head south to the mountainous island of Kalamos. You can be guaranteed some great sailing breezes in the afternoon before heading into the well-protected harbour and dinner at George’s famous taverna.
  • Lefkas Flotilla Port Leone
    Day 5

    Thursday

    Port Leone / Kalamos (8 nm)

    A short hop to the location of our beach party on Kalamos means plenty of time to explore or relax: head south to the Dragonera islands, great for spotting dolphins, or take it easy, sailing around Kastos with a lazy stop for lunch.

    Day 6

    Friday

    Free Sailing

    Plenty of choice for your free sailing: head to Meganisi for a night in one of the bays on the north coast, or alternatively head south-west to Ithaca or Kefalonia.
  • Nikiana Harbour
    Day 7

    Saturday

    Nikiana Harbour / Lefkas Town

    Return to Lefkas island and enjoy a farewell dinner together in the old town. Two-week guests continue free sailing, and your crew will be happy to guide you to some of the hidden gems for your weekend.

Ionian flotilla routes may vary during the season according to weather and operating conditions. However, our flotilla crew will keep you fully briefed each day.

The Ionian flotilla sailing area

The South Ionian islands sit just off the coast of western Greece and create a wonderful protected expanse of water, so they are perfect for flotilla sailing.

These islands, as well as many smaller ones, offer bustling harbours and peaceful secluded anchorages, all waiting to be explored.

Weather and sailing conditions

Overall, the summer sailing season in Greece enjoys fantastic weather, with clear skies and warm temperatures from April to October. April and May average around 20 to 25°C, then temperatures rise to the mid-thirties in late July and August before easing gradually through September and October. Meanwhile, sailing conditions on the Ionian flotilla are generally moderate, with winds between force 2 and 5. The sea is also perfect for swimming: around 20°C in May, rising to 23 or 24°C in the protected bays by late August, and falling back to around 20°C in late September and early October.

Specifically, the guarantee applies to yacht and accommodation rates on our Beach Club, Flotilla, Learn to Sail and Cabin Charter programmes operated by Seafarer, and is subject to availability at the time of booking.

Not included: mooring charges (except at the flotilla base), canal fees, extra fuel or water, food and drinks, and personal items such as laundry. For sail and stay holidays, transfers from the yacht base to your accommodation are usually excluded and payable locally, unless you book a flight-inclusive package.

Skippered flotilla sailing

These yachts are usually skippered by guests who hold the right qualifications, but we can also provide a skipper if you have no previous sailing experience. You still get all the benefits of sailing as part of an Ionian flotilla: meeting others in the evenings or during the day, organised activities for children, and all the usual pleasures of yachting, from exploring and swimming in secluded bays to the simple joy of travelling under sail.

Travel

Getting to the Lefkas flotilla

There are plenty of ways to reach our base in Nikiana, whether you’re joining us for a week or combining the Ionian flotilla with a longer trip. We’re in Nikiana harbour, right in the heart of the village, so it’s easy to reach by public or private transport. Seafarer flotillas in the Ionian run Sunday to Sunday: yachts are usually ready to board by 17:00 on the first day, and you then disembark at around 09:00 at the end of the flotilla.

  • Flights

    Sunday charter flights from Gatwick, as well as scheduled flights from Heathrow, Stansted, Luton, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh. Flights to other European centres are also available on Sundays and other days of the week.


  • Bus and taxi

    Firstly, direct Seafarer transfers from Preveza airport take around 30 minutes. In addition, regular buses run from Nikiana harbour to Nydri, Vassiliki and Lefkas town, and from Lefkas town to Athens and Corinth, with less frequent services to Thessaloniki and Igoumenitsa.


  • Ferry

    Regular ferries run from Kefalonia to Vassiliki (40 minutes from base) as well as from Meganisi to Nydri (10 minutes from base). Less frequent ferries also run from Corfu, Paxos, Kefalonia, Ithaca and Zante to Lefkas town (15 minutes from base).

You can also enjoy dinghy sailing, windsurfing and other watersports right here in Nikiana. Our beach club is small and friendly, perfect for a week before or after your week on the Lefkas flotilla. Prices start at £495pp for a week including flights from London, so a sail and stay holiday can be great value for an amazing two weeks in the Ionian.
