From the Ionian to the Saronic Gulf via the Corinth Canal

See the changing face of Greece as you sail east from the Ionian islands to our base in Korfos in the Saronic Gulf. This is a one-way delivery route, sailing our fleet from the Ionian towards its winter location.

The route takes in the Ionian island of Ithaca before heading to the historic town of Messolonghi on the mainland. We then head to the city of Patras on the Peloponnese, before passing under the famous Rio bridge and into the Gulf of Corinth, which is full of hidden gems.

In the Gulf of Corinth, you can also visit the ancient site of Delphi on an optional excursion, before a rest day in the stunning town of Galaxidi. Finally, we head for Corinth and transit the iconic canal on our way to Epidavros and, at last, “home” to Korfos.

    After Antikyra and the unspoilt Alkyonides islands we reach Corinth town, then cross this iconic landmark into the Saronic Gulf and our winter port of Korfos.

Weather and sailing conditions

The weather in October can be changeable, with typical daytime temperatures in the mid 20s and slightly cooler evenings. Wind strength is typically force 3 to 5, although you should be prepared for stiffer breezes at this time of year. Meanwhile, with warm daytime temperatures and water that has been heated through the summer, a swim is still a very pleasant experience.

Not included: mooring charges (except at the flotilla base), canal fees, extra fuel or water, food and drinks, and personal items such as laundry. For sail and stay holidays, transfers from the yacht base to your accommodation are usually excluded and payable locally, unless you book a flight-inclusive package.

Skippered flotilla sailing

These yachts are usually skippered by guests who hold the right qualifications, but we can also provide a skipper if you have no previous sailing experience. You still get all the benefits of sailing as part of a flotilla: meeting others in the evenings or during the day, organised activities for children, and all the usual pleasures of yachting, from exploring and swimming in secluded bays to the simple joy of travelling under sail.

Getting to the delivery flotilla

There are plenty of ways to reach our base in Kefalonia, whether you’re joining us for the delivery or combining it with a longer trip. We’re in the village of Agia Eufimia, so it’s easy to reach by public or private transport. Seafarer flotillas in the Ionian run Sunday to Sunday: yachts are usually ready to board from around 14:00 on the first day, and you then disembark at around 09:00 at the end of the flotilla.

  • Flights

    Direct Sunday flights to Kefalonia International Airport from London (Gatwick and Stansted), Bristol, Nottingham, Birmingham and Manchester. There are also flights from the UK and other European destinations through the week.


  • Bus and taxi

    Firstly, direct Seafarer transfers from Kefalonia airport to the base take roughly an hour. In addition, irregular local buses run from Agia Eufimia to Argostoli, the capital, while regular buses run from Poros (30 minutes from base) to Athens and Patras, with less regular buses from Sami.


  • Ferry

    Regular ferries run to Sami (10 minutes from base) from Ithaca and Astakos, with less frequent ferries from Zante, Lefkada and Corfu. Regular ferries also run to Fiskardo (40 minutes from base) from Vassiliki on Lefkada.
