RYA Catamaran tuition - Day Skipper tuition on a Lagoon 400
Taking your family or group of friends out on a sailing trip in the comfort of a catamaran with plenty of space for all and with extra comforts such as ensuite cabins, a generator and air conditioning is something most of us have thought about. These creature comforts are just what you need to tempt ‘land lubbers’ who have yet to experience the sheer joy of sailing and exploring on a yacht to give sailing a go. On the other hand, if you have not sailed and skippered a catamaran before, it can be a pretty daunting prospect.
This is a 7 night course in total, run on a Lagoon 400, with four ensuite cabins, and is fitted with a generator, air-conditioning and all the usual electronics and instrumentation.
26th October 2025
From £995 per person

Course Details
Our Catamaran course is aimed at the skipper or crew who have experience on smaller yachts but aspires to bigger, and aims to build your confidence and enhance your skippering skills in a number of areas. You can also complete the RYA Day Skipper course during this training, though the course is also equally suited to those skippers who already have a qualification but are looking to get some professional training aboard a catamaran.
Syllabus
- Handling and close-quarters maneuvering including correct use of twin engines
- Anchoring and mooring techniques including Mediterranean stern-to mooring
- Advanced sail trim in a range of conditions from light airs to heavy weather
- Managing an inexperienced crew and ensuring they get the best out of the experience
- Looking after your charter yacht, understanding the systems on board plus basic do’s and don’ts
- Basics on trouble shooting and ‘on the go’ fixes
- All additional items on the RYA Day Skipper syllabus
- Choosing the right yacht for your party
Next Steps
We hope that once you have been on this course, you’ll have confidence and the relevant experience to be able to charter a catamaran, whether that be with family or friends as part of a flotilla or perhaps try a bareboat charter in that bucket-list destination. We can, of course, advise you on the best choices for your next charter and we can source catamarans on many of our flotilla programs.

Sailing Area
We will be running our Catamaran course from our Seafarer Training operating base in the Ionian, located in Nikiana. It’s the perfect start point to enable us to explore the Southern Ionian islands and situated conveniently close to Preveza International Airport.

Weather & Sailing Conditions
The Ionian provides usually gentle sailing conditions for your catamaran experience, with light to moderate winds in protected waters. The prevailing winds are generally north-westerly, creating consistent sailing conditions. During October the weather can be a little changeable.
Highlights

The Yacht
The Lagoon 400 is the perfect mid-size catamaran for training. With 4 ensuite cabins, a large saloon and spacious cockpit, the Lagoon provides an excellent introduction to catamaran sailing with easy sail controls lead back to the helm station, which is raised to offer an excellent all-round view of the yacht, important when first learning the twin engine characteristics, particularly during close-quarters maneuvering.
