Corfu & Albania Milebuilder: Advanced Miles in the Northern Ionian

RYA Training CentreCourses run by our RYA-qualified instructors

This milebuilder, first trialled in Autumn 2025, takes us north from our base in Agia Eufimia on Kefalonia until we reach Sarande in Albania. We also stop in Paxos and Corfu along the way, with two night passages en route.

It is ideal for Day Skippers looking to build offshore experience, as well as those progressing towards Coastal Skipper or higher. Besides putting close to 200 nautical miles under the keel, the trip covers advanced sail trim and, conditions permitting, heavy-weather sailing techniques.

Checking out of Greece from Corfu before heading across to Albania is a unique opportunity to visit this emerging destination. It also teaches you the formalities associated with cross-border passages.

Course Focus

  • Advanced Offshore MilesAround 200nm of offshore sailing, including two night passages. This is particularly useful for those working towards Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster qualifications.
  • Advanced Sail TrimDedicated advanced sail trim training, as well as practical heavy-weather sailing techniques when conditions permit.
  • Cross-Border PassageCheck out of Greece from Corfu and sail to Albania, while learning the formalities of international maritime passages.

The Milebuilder Route: Northern Ionian & Albania

Greece’s northern Ionian Islands, from Kefalonia to Corfu, are certainly a captivating blend of natural beauty, rich history and vibrant culture. Lush landscapes, pristine beaches and turquoise waters also make this one of the Mediterranean’s finest sailing grounds.

Corfu, the largest and most cosmopolitan, boasts Venetian architecture and lively harbours. Further south, Paxos and Antipaxos offer a more secluded experience, famous for olive groves, sea caves and crystal-clear water.

The crossing to Sarande, Albania is undoubtedly an exciting highlight of the Corfu & Albania milebuilder. It is an opportunity to visit this emerging destination as well as the nearby UNESCO World Heritage site of Ancient Butrint. The ancient city dates to the 5th century BC, while the site sits in a stunning national park.

Weather & Sailing Conditions

The Northern Ionian can be changeable. The prevailing north-westerlies tend to be more varied further north, so there is a chance of stronger conditions. Because of the two night passages, layered clothing and light waterproofs are advisable. Meanwhile, daytime temperatures are warm, typically high 20s to low 30s.

The Training Yacht

The Milebuilder Yacht: Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 469

Our Sun Odyssey 469, known as Kos 469, is the yacht for the Corfu & Albania milebuilder thanks to its spacious four-cabin layout and strong performance. The large size also makes it challenging and rewarding to manoeuvre under power. That is excellent preparation for anyone who wants to skipper larger craft.

All cabins feature hatches, fans and full bedding, while 12v charging is available throughout, plus 220v on shore power. The spacious saloon, fully equipped galley, large bimini and sprayhood complete the package, together with a cockpit with twin wheels and a fold-down swimming platform. The yacht is also fully compliant with Greek and UK coding, with lifejackets, liferaft, jackstays and full safety equipment.

  • Cabins & Sleeping

    Four cabins: two en-suite doubles aft as well as two single en-suite cabins forward. However, the starboard forward cabin is reserved for the instructor. All cabins have hatches, fans and full bedding throughout the season.

  • Shared Spaces

    Light and airy saloon with large seating area, as well as a fully equipped galley and navigation station. Storage under seating as well as under cabin beds. 12v charging throughout, 220v on shore power.

  • Exterior & Safety

    Twin wheels, fold-down swimming platform, as well as a large bimini and sprayhood. Fully battened mainsail with lazy bag, large roller genoa. Full safety kit, such as lifejackets, liferaft, jackstays, radios and gas/smoke detectors.

Sail & Stay

Getting There & Away

We are based at Agia Eufimia Harbour. Embarkation is from 17:00 on the first Sunday, then you disembark around 09:00 at the end of the week.


  • Flights

    There are Sunday charter flights from Gatwick, as well as scheduled flights from Heathrow, Stansted, Luton, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh to Kefalonia.


  • Bus & Taxi

    Direct Seafarer transfers from Kefalonia Airport take roughly 1 hour, so you are aboard soon after landing. Local buses also run from Agia Eufimia to Argostoli, and regular buses run from Poros (30 minutes from base) to Athens and Patras.


  • Ferry

    Regular ferries run to Sami (10 min from base) from Ithaca and Astakos, as well as to Fiskardo (40 min from base) from Vassiliki on Lefkada. Less frequent services also run from Zante, Lefkada and Corfu.
