A sailing trip from Messolonghi to the Saronic Gulf via Kalamata offers a remarkable journey through some of Greece’s most varied and beautiful waters. Departing from the sheltered lagoon of Messolonghi, the route follows the western coast of the Peloponnese, passing historic harbours, rugged coastlines and the islands of the Ionian Sea before rounding the southern Peloponnese.
Kalamata provides a natural stopover, with its long waterfront and dramatic backdrop of the Taygetos mountains, before the voyage continues eastwards around Cape Malea and into the Aegean. From there, the islands and sheltered waters of the Saronic Gulf open up, with destinations such as Monemvasia, Hydra, Spetses, Poros and Aegina offering a rewarding combination of sailing, history, traditional villages and crystal-clear waters.
Sailing towards Monemvasia, Nafplion and Poros takes you through some of the most captivating landscapes of the eastern Peloponnese and the Saronic Gulf. The dramatic medieval fortress of Monemvasia, rising from a rocky island off the coast, makes a spectacular first stop, combining centuries of history with narrow lanes, stone houses and views across the Myrtoan Sea.
Continuing north, Nafplion offers an elegant waterfront, neoclassical architecture and impressive Venetian fortresses overlooking the harbour. From there, the voyage continues into the sheltered waters of the Saronic Gulf towards Poros, where pine-covered hills, a lively waterfront and traditional Greek island character provide a relaxed conclusion to this scenic coastal passage.
The weather in April can be changeable, with typical daytime temperatures in the mid 20s with slightly cooler evenings. Wind strength is typically force 3 to 5, although be prepared for stiffer breezes at this time of year.

While these yachts are generally skippered by guests themselves who hold the correct qualifications we can also provide a skipper for those with no prior sailing experience. This will still have all the benefits of sailing as part of a flotilla, meeting others in the evenings or during the day, organised activities for the kids as well as all the usual benefits of yachting, like exploring, swimming in secluded bays during the day, and the simple joy of travelling under sail. Direct Seafarer transfers from Preveza Airport to the base which takes roughly 90 minutes. Regular buses from Athens and a variety of destinations all over Southern & Western Greece.
